Founded in the 1860's by a Civil War veteran, Phoenix has grown into the fifth largest city in the United States, a sprawling urban oasis that ranks among the fastest growing areas in the United States. Located in the Valley of the Sun, the four million residents of the Greater Phoenix area enjoy a variety of world-class museums, art centers, archaeological parks, botanical gardens, eateries, shopping and professional sporting events in a moderate-range of temperatures. From a winter mean temperature in the mid-50s to a summer mean temperature in the mid-90s, Phoenix boasts almost 300 days of sun. One of the biggest claims-to-fame in the area is the 200+ golf courses. With all those sunny days and moderate temperatures, most days are golf days in and around Phoenix.
