Aker Brygge and Oslo City Hall at night Provided by: VisitOslo
Situated between mountain, sea and woodland, Oslo is a blend of city life and outdoor activities. Winter sports are popular, including jump, downhill and long distance skiing. In summer the 110 km long Oslo Fjord draws people to their boats and the many small islands and beaches.Despite being the oldest of the Scandinavian capitals, Oslo is still the youngster in search of adult identity. Spending hours in front of the mirror, she aims for a mature look, and sometimes it clicks. On a hot summers day, she seethes with cosmopolitan urban life, people striding the Main Street cat walk, drinking latte by the pavement cafés. She also hosts a variety of museums, from the Nobel Peace Center to the Munch Museum to the Viking Ship boathouse. But beneath the surface, Oslo is still a budding adolescent. This however, only adds to her appeal.
