The town of Napa is the most southern of the famous wine towns in the Napa Valley. But it wasn't too long ago that tourists were disappointed-thinking that Napa "town" was the Napa Valley. But times have changed. Although it may not have the cache of St. Helena or Yountville, Napa has lots of new restaurants, high-end hotels, shops and a restored riverfront, making it a serious wine country attraction in its own right. And its location allows for an easy day trip from San Francisco. The many historic buildings, such as the Napa Valley Opera House and the Napa Courthouse in the downtown area, can take you back to Napa's 19th century past. The Oxbow Market, wonderful restaurants such as Ubuntu, Angele, Cole's Chophouse, Ken Frank's La Toque in the brand new Westin hotel, and great wine shops like Back Room Wines, and the Bounty Hunter add to its culinary appeal. Today, Upper Valley residents will leave their own backyard and visit Napa to eat and shop.
