Not necessarily a first-choice location for the first-time traveler to Italy, Milan is nonetheless a worthwhile place to visit. Not just for the shopping, but also for the many monuments, which serve to prove that this city has had a long and interesting history. Leonardo came here for work purposes, as did Mozart. Hemingway spent time here, too. If the thought of the third largest church in the world does not do it for you, just look at a picture of the Duomo in Milan and you will change your mind. The sheer craftsmanship, the inspiration, the 3,500 statues are just breathtaking. As are the prices in the fashion boutiques. Here too, you will want to stand and stare. So many shops, so little time! So do yourself a favor. Don't try and do it all. Just make sure that -- like many before you -- next time you fly into Linate airport, you will allow a lot more time in Milan.
