Lampang was founded late in the seventh century, supposedly by the son of the founder of Lamphun. One of the city's most noted features is that you can still chose to get around it by horse-drawn carriage. Aside from that, there are a couple of very large and historic temples in and around the city, as well as Thailand's main elephant conservation center located outside of town.
