With more restaurants per person than any other British city, Edinburgh is a great place for food enthusiasts. Take your pick: start the day with a bowl of cholesterol busting porridge, or indulge in a full Scottish breakfast with eggs, haggis or sliced sausage meats, fresh bread, butter and Highland jams. Make those choices throughout the day. Will it be Scottish salmon or fresh game? Berries or local fudge? The relatively uncongested and clean environment of Scotland means a wonderful spectrum of locally produced meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables. These are sold through popular farmer's markets in all the major towns and cities and showcased in fine restaurants. Luckily, visitors can work off those calories and enjoy the fabulous outdoors with a little hiking or golf. And take the time to learn about Scotland's most famous royal: Mary Queen of Scots whose colorful history is depicted in various castles in and around the city.
