This 700-year old city is something of the 'cultural capital' of Thailand, as popular among Thais as it is among foreign tourists. Within the moat and walls of the ancient kingdom are many Buddhist temples dating back to the founding of the city, as well as museums and numerous small shops selling traditional handicrafts such as silk, silver and carved wood.
