Caen, the capital of Lower Normandy is well known for its association with WW II, and the D-Day landings. Not surprisingly, the sights revolve the events of WW II; the D-Day beaches, museums and memorials. The sea of tombstones at the many cemeteries of the Allied Forces are a sobering sight. Close by is the town of Bayeux, were the world famous Bayeux Tapestry is housed. Visitors can also enjoy the beaches and quiet seaside towns of Normandy that are readily accessible from Caen.
